Caring for your Cashmere Bed Socks
Cashmere is an extremely soft and premium fibre, known for its warmth and luxurious feel. To preserve these natural qualities, it is important to care for it the right way.
Sleepy Wilson cashmere bed socks are designed to be kind to your skin and the environment. Cashmere is a natural, anti-microbial fabric, so it doesn’t need washing as often as other clothing items. It is also a luxurious material that requires a certain care, to ensure its quality as an investment item remains. Please see below for a little more detail on how best to care for your cashmere to ensure they have a long life.
It may help to note to please refrain from pairing them with footwear, as it may harm the fragile fibres.
Hand Wash for Best Results
For washing cashmere at home, we recommend gentle hand washing after every three to four wears. Follow these steps:
- Use cool to lukewarm water at no more than 30°C.
- Add a specialist wool or cashmere detergent, avoid biological detergents, as they contain enzymes that can break down the protein fibres.
- Turn inside out and submerge the knitwear - let it soak for a few minutes.
- Gently agitate, but do not rub, stretch or wring.
- Rinse several times with water of the same temperature until it runs clear.
Reshape & Dry Flat
- Gently press, but do not wring or twist to remove excess water.
- Lay the knitwear flat on a towel to dry.
- Roll up, then lay flat to air dry in its natural shape.
- Gently reshape and smooth it while damp if necessary.
- Avoid direct heat, sunlight and never tumble dry.
- Avoid hanging cashmere, as this can distort the fibres and misshape the garment.
- Once dry, iron on a cool setting using a damp cloth to protect the fibres.
Remove Pilling
After the first few wears, you may notice small fibre balls or pilling on your cashmere. This is a natural process as loose fibres rub together. Use a cashmere comb to gently remove pilling, leaving your knitwear feeling even softer.
How to store cashmere and Prevent Moths
Proper storage is key to keeping cashmere in pristine condition. Follow these tips:
- Use cedar wood balls: Natural moth repellents to protect your knitwear.
- Store in breathable bags or drawers to prevent dust and pests.
- Fold cashmere items rather than hanging to maintain shape.
